Fading estimated dates
What it does. When a date is estimated rather than recorded, the part
of the bar it affects fades gently toward the estimated end: an estimated
birth fades the start, an estimated death fades the end, and both can fade.
Only the fill fades; the bar's ink outline is drawn exactly as for a
recorded date.
Why you might use it. So anyone reading the chart can see at a glance
which lifespans rest on recorded dates and which on estimates.

Inferred-date fade: Fade inferred dates turns it on or off, and
Fade strength sets how far the fill softens (35% to start with).
What to expect. The fade never changes a date, where a bar starts or
ends, or the layout. A bar with no fill (an outline) keeps its outline
unchanged. The PDF prints the same fade as the screen.
