Selected person relationships
What it does. Colours the chart around one person. Direct relatives
have solid colours: spouses and partners, brothers and sisters (full or
half), ancestors, descendants, and the partners of brothers and sisters.
The wider family is striped in the same colour as the direct relatives
it is reached through:
- Ancestor branch: everyone descended from the person's ancestors who
is not a direct ancestor, such as aunts, uncles, cousins and their
families. - Descendant branch: a child's other parent and that parent's
ancestors. - Partners of branch relatives: their husbands and wives. Their own
families are not followed. - Connected through both branches (lime): someone reached both through
the ancestors and through the descendants, for example after a cousin
marriage. This is not an error in the records.
Why you might use it. To see at a glance where one person's family sits
in a large chart, or how two branches of the family meet.
Where to find it. Overlays › Selected person relationships, then
click one person. It can also show while the Arrange pane is open
(Layout › Arrange › Behaviour › Show Arrange overlay).
What to expect. Each person has exactly one colour, and the legend
counts them. Colouring never changes the chart or what Arrange moves, and
it is never printed. With no one or several people selected, the chart
keeps its own colours.
